1.
Economic Trend: Baby Boomers are not retiring.
b. Statistical data shows that
baby boomers are not retiring because they want to continue working to feel
valued and more knowledgeable. Furthermore, baby boomers say that they don’t
want to retire at the age of retirement because they feel as if they will feel
frustrated and old. Another reason to not retire early is because they feel
that they are not financially stable enough to retire.
c. Baby boomers and soon to be
retirees are the customers that would benefit this opportunity.
d. I think that this opportunity
is relatively difficult to exploit. In this day in age, generally speaking
people want to feel young and feel that they have a purpose. Continuing to work
helps with both of these concerns. On the other hand, if there is some type of
big incentive for the baby boomer generation to stop working, I’m sure that
they would consider stopping working if a large monetary value came with it.
I believe that an opportunity exists
in this area because I myself have seen this firsthand. Some of my aunts and
uncles are in the baby boomer generation and have not yet retired even though
they are able to. I believe that they haven’t retired yet because they don’t
want to feel old and want to continue learning.
2. Economic Trend: Energy demand and CO2 admissions
continue to rise
b. An opportunity exists because
the energy that our planet is using and the CO2 admissions that are entering
the atmosphere is hurting our planet. We have seen an increase in global
warming and serious natural disasters. The fires in Australia, the sea level
quickly rising, the glaciers melting exponentially all attributes to energy
that we use daily.
c. The customers with this
opportunity is really the entire planet.
d. This opportunity is relatively
difficult to exploit because it is very tough to get an entire planet on board
with a cause. Recently, people have been seeing and experiencing natural
disasters with their own eyes and are trying to help out and speak out against
climate change. Regulations are being put in place to stop admissions that are
hurting the air and atmosphere. The question is, are these efforts enough to
help save our planet?
I saw an opportunity because the natural disasters and global warming is affecting everything around me. If sea levels rise, Long Island, the place where I was born and raised could be under water by the time, I am a grandparent. The thought of that really worries me and no one seems to be doing anything to prevent sea levels rising.
3. Regulatory trend: Creating a tax burden for
harmful products such as tobacco and nicotine products
b. An opportunity for this exists
because some regulatory taxes and bans have already been put in place for these
products. Taxes have become extremely high, and some states are banning these
products as a whole which makes it extremely difficult for consumers to get
their hands on these products legally and safely.
c. The customers with this opportunity are
smokers and federal/ state economies
d. This task seems relatively easy to
implement. It has been done in the past and has decreased their uses.
I saw an opportunity in this area because
being 20 years old, I see people juuling and smoking all of the time. It has
become such a normal thing to do for our generation and I’ve seen how badly it
can affect their health.
4. Regulatory trend: Implement more cyber security
laws.
b. Cybersecurity attacks are constantly happening with all
of our technology that we use on a daily basis. Everything is now stored in the
cyber world opposed to paper. This creates a greater risk of cyber criminals
which can be detrimental and costly to a business. Cybersecurity precautions
and money being spent on cybersecurity are on the rise.
c. Business firms, and everyone with a credit card, email,
telephone number really everyone would be a customer of this opportunity.
d. This opportunity would be fairly easy to implement
because training is out there, and people are realizing that this is becoming a
huge issue. People are very protective over their personal information and
businesses strive to keep their information safe as well.
I saw this opportunity from personal experience. My debit
card had fraudulent activity and I felt powerless in this situation which was
extremely stressful. Also, working at a large company this past summer, the
company had a cybersecurity program set in place for prevention. All summer
long we would hear about cybersecurity and how crucial it is to know how to
avoid it. Due to this, it has been engrained in my head to be cautious of
cybersecurity and hackers.
Hi Rachel! I enjoyed reading your post for this assignment. I liked the articles you chose, especially the one regarding implementing more cybersecurity laws. I completely relate to your personal experience pertaining to this opportunity, as my debit card recently had fraudulent activity and it was a very stressful situation. I agree with you that this opportunity is easy to exploit because cybersecurity is a prominent online issue. Overall, great job!

ReplyDeleteYou hit on two topics that I also thought about. That's cybersecurity and what to do with the baby boomer population.
ReplyDeleteWith the increasing reliance on technology, cyber-attacks are only going to increase. I have had my ID stolen at least 4 times, and once someone stole $2,200. It's a big problem. As far as the boomers go, I think it's a good idea to keep working, I don't ever plan to retire but I want to be able too do so if I choose.
Good Afternoon Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI am very interesting in the articles you chose to cite.
Much of your articles and commentary are on things that seem as if they are out of our control, (the boomer retirement and the climate change article). These problems both are heavily influenced by baby boomers! Perhaps if action would be taken, it could be directed at this demographic as they seem to have a large influence.
