Your Entrepreneurship Story

For as long as I could remember, I always knew that my grandparents were entrepreneurs. My grandma, aunts and uncles love sitting down and talking about their childhood stories which always include the bridal shop family business. Although I was not alive during the time when the bridal shop was open, I still feel that it has impacted my life and upbringing.

My grandparents had owned two bridal stores on Long Island, New York. The bridal stores sold bridal dresses, bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses, and rented out tuxedos for their customers. I have been told that the bridal store was very much a family affair. My dad, his brothers and sister, and other family members worked at the shop to help out and work whenever needed.

My grandparents running their own business has affected how my dad was raised, and consequently how I was brought up. He says to me that his parents owning their own business in retail, made him realize that he did not want to be a part of that when he was an adult. Entrepreneurship can be such a positive part in this world that we live in. Every day we face different kinds of entrepreneurship that make our lives easier and more efficient. On the flip side, this story about my family has taught me that obstacles and challenges are a part of starting something new. It shined light on the fact that that not every story is a Steve Jobs story nor does it have to be.

I decided to take ENT3003 for a couple different reasons. First being, I think that entrepreneurship is very interesting to learn about. The world would not function without the idea of entrepreneurship. Going all the way back to something as simple as the light bulb. Secondly, one day I hope to open up my own accounting firm. I believe that having an education in entrepreneurship can only help me for my future and future goals that I hope to accomplish.
